UPDATE
I am slowly packing up my belongings as I prepare my apartment for departure. Experience has taught me that even though I have six weeks, time flies when you’re celebrating Thanksgiving, a wedding, Christmas, New Years, and simultaneously trying to pack up your life. Fortuna eruditis favet.
Despite all these big changes that bring their stresses I have peace. I know that I am on the right track and being lead by the Holy Spirit.
THANKSGIVING STORY
The other weekend I celebrated thanksgiving with my mother’s side of the family. As we were cleaning up, one of my young cousins was feeling sassy (probably sugar high from the pie she was eating) and declared, “You are my servant!”
My response, “Yup.”
They call me loquacious…
But if the moment allowed for brevity and I was better at communicating my heart, this is how I would’ve explained my response:
Jesus said we are to serve one another. So if we serve, that makes us servants.
Mark 10:42-45
Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Jesus, the Son of God, the Root of David, the Word, the Lamb of God, the Light of the World, came not to be served but to serve…if He did it, then I probably should be doing this too.
Galatians 5:13
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Every time I pray for this squad that is going out, I get so excited for the journey the Lord is taking them on. I am so honored that I get to serve them and serve alongside them this year.
So many people out there are seeking truth and they want to know Jesus (whether they know his name or not). So many people are hurting and broken and need to know there is a Savior who sees them, loves them, and He wants to bind up their wounds.
Psalm 147:3
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Isaiah 61:1
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,”
Thank you, Jesus that we don’t have to be special or qualified or superhuman to serve in your kingdom. We just have to be available, humble, and willing.
