Currently I am sitting on my sleeping pad in the drafty training center at Adventures reading the squad’s blogs and thinking about what God is going to do in the next three months.
While I’ve been thinking and praying about this journey, these are some of the words I want to embrace this year:
1. Simplicity
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” -Leonardo da Vinci
When I went out on field in 2018 I had a 65L pack and a daypack that was probably 26L. This time I am going out with a 46L and a daypack that’s probably 18L. With only this much room to work with, it really makes you really think about what you are going to bring.
2. Enjoy Nature
I love the outdoors, but I haven’t gotten to enjoy them in 2021 as much as I’d like to. I loved going for long walks around my neighborhood. I specifically bought some boots so I could take long walks in the snow in Romania (if there is any).
My focus this year is to spend as much time outdoors as I can. I connect very deeply with God in nature. The woods in particular has always been a place of beautiful meditation, solitude, and stillness with the Lord. Wherever I end up after the Race, I hope there’s lots of trees.
3. Be Present
When I was reading through my journals from my original Race, I was worried about what I would be doing after the race. I was constantly asking the Lord what he wanted me to DO instead of just enjoying being present with Him in that place.
Instead of cluttering my head space trying to “figure out” everything and constantly have a plan, I just want to take one step at a time with Jesus and see where He leads me.
I also don’t want to miss the opportunity to focus on encouraging my team in their personal relationship with Jesus. I want to be able to love them right where they are at and give them the tools they need to walk out their faith in an authentic way.

Giving
In two days, it’s my birthday. Woo! Getting older and wiser (hopefully)! If you are looking for an opportunity to bless me or say “thank you for being born”, here are the ways you can do it:
Venmo: @Heidi-Gray-3
Paypal: @HeidiAlmighty
CashApp: $HeidiGray
Adventures in Mission: Click the donate button on this blog! Donations through their page are tax-deductible.
T-Shirt: If you want to get a cool souvenir, you can also get a t-shirt I designed in order to fundraise for this trip. About $10 from each purchase goes towards my fund.
I am currently 65% funded for my trip.
Only $1379 to go before I am fully funded.
Thank you for everyone who has donated and has been praying for me. I appreciate everything you have offered and it has been such a blessing.
Love this!!! Excited to trudge through the snow with you in my boots 🙂 Also sad i won’t be there to say HBD in person, but we can celebrate our birth month all month long 😉 Can’t wait to see you!!!!!
